🇸🇪 Varberg Kallbadhus
Varberg Harbour, Halland · Varberg · Sweden
One of Sweden's most celebrated and photographed historic bathing establishments — a beautiful wooden kallbadhus (cold bathhouse) extending on piers into the sea at Varberg harbour, dating from 1903 and now a protected cultural monument. Separate wings for men and women each have traditional saunas and direct cold plunge access into the Kattegat, with views of Varberg Fortress (a 13th-century castle) rising above the shoreline. The ritual here is quintessentially Scandinavian: intense sauna heat followed by a bracing drop into the grey-green sea, repeated until the world feels right. Varberg sits on the main West Coast railway line, making it a very easy half-day trip from Gothenburg or Malmö.
