A striking new municipal geothermal infinity pool on the old harbour quay in Akranes, opened May 2023. Heated to 39–42°C by the town's own geothermal source, with sweeping panoramic views across Faxaflói Bay toward Reykjavik and Snæfellsjökull glacier on clear days. Named after Guðlaug Þorbergsdóttir, an Akranes swimmer who drowned near this spot in 1933. Far less crowded than Reykjavik's pools and one of Iceland's most beautiful new public bathing experiences — a compelling reason to make the short trip west.
