A dramatic lava cave near Lake Mývatn containing a stunning turquoise geothermal pool. Made famous as a filming location for Game of Thrones (Season 3), Grjótagjá was once used for bathing but volcanic activity in the 1970s raised the water to around 50°C — too hot to swim. Still visitable and utterly spectacular: the cave glows with otherworldly blue-green light filtering through ancient lava rock.
